Helene Schjerfbeck

July 10, 1862 - January 23, 1946
Helene is known as a portrait painter, painting in realism and eventually into expressionism.

I like Helene's transition from realism to expression, and that you can see it her paintings. I like her choice to do portraits of young girls, as a female painter. Her early portraits look very delicate and soft and only become flatter in a sense because they do not lose the soft touch just approached in a different way.

From Helene work I would aspire to record my transitions in art over time. I also would love to learn how she had rendered the hair in her portraits.
