James McNeill Whistler

July 10, 1834 - July 17, 1903
Whistler is commonly known as a painter, for his tonal harmonies. Also promoted the slogan, "Art for Art's Sake."

What I like about Whistler's art is that they are his observations painted to be near abstractions because of his interest in tonal variations, his ability to convey information with little detail.

The take away for my work would be from his using a tone to fill in large spaces, and his unfocused imagery to aid in completing 'unfinished' paintings.
